Visa and overstay fines are checked on the official ICP and GDRFA portals with your Emirates ID or passport. Here's exactly where to look, and what to do once you know the number.
1
Know which authority holds your status
Residency and visa matters are handled by the ICP (Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship) nationwide, and by the GDRFA for residents of Dubai. Overstay and violation fines sit with whichever issued your visa.
Use the ICP smart services (website or UAEICP app) to check your file status and any violations, searchable by Emirates ID or passport / unified number.
An overstay fine is charged per day after your visa or grace period expires. It keeps growing until the status is corrected — either by renewing, exiting, or changing status — so acting early costs less.
5
Clear the fine and fix the status
Pay the violation through the official portal, then resolve the underlying status: renew the residence visa, exit and re-enter, or switch to a new sponsor. The fine and the status are two separate steps.
How overstay fines work
When a residence visa or a visit visa expires, there is usually a short grace period. After it, an overstay fine accrues for each day until the status is corrected. Because it compounds daily, a fine that is small this week is larger next month — which is why checking and acting quickly is almost always the cheaper path.
The fine and the status are separate
Paying the fine does not, on its own, fix your residency — you still need to renew the visa, exit and re-enter, or transfer to a new sponsor. Getting both right, in the correct order, is exactly the kind of thing our team does every day.
Always check and pay through the official ICP and GDRFA portals linked above. OMC is a company- formation and PRO-services firm, not a government authority — but we resolve visa status and renewals for clients every day.
